What we process
CortexDJ runs locally on your computer. It analyzes your music files (tempo, key, energy, structure) and stores results in a local cache and your app-data folder. Settings — including broadcast/stream keys (encrypted) and your license key — are stored locally on your machine. If you have Mixed In Key installed, CortexDJ can read its local database to import key/energy results. Apart from license activation (below), this data never leaves your computer.
Activation
When you activate a license key, the app sends the key and an anonymous, one-way-hashed computer identifier to cortexdj.com to enforce the 2-computer activation limit. No music, library or usage data is included, and the identifier cannot be traced back to your hardware.
Diagnostics
To help us fix crashes and improve stability, the app sends anonymized system-health diagnostics — the app version, your operating system and version, an anonymous install identifier, hardware load (CPU/RAM/disk), uptime, the names of connected MIDI/audio devices, the video encoder in use, your license plan, and recent error messages from the app’s own log. So we can spot regional problems and abuse, our server also stores a coarse, truncated form of your IP address alongside this diagnostics snapshot — the last part is removed (e.g. 203.0.113.0), so no full IP address is kept with your diagnostics. (Truncation applies to diagnostics only; see Website & email below for what the website forms store.) This is on by default; you can turn it off any time in Settings → Privacy. It is sent to cortexdj.com about once a minute while the app is open. Your music, mixes, library, file names and analysis are never uploaded.
Website & email
If you request a free license key or sign up on cortexdj.com, we store your email to send you the key, the download link and occasional product updates; you can unsubscribe anytime. That record also keeps the date and the full IP address the request came from, so that if the form is abused — it mints licence keys and sends mail — we can see where it came from and block it. Unlike the app’s diagnostics, this IP is not truncated. It stays on our own server, is not used for tracking or profiling, and is deleted when you ask us to delete your email (see Contact). Your email address — and nothing else from that record — is also passed to the email/mailing-list provider that actually delivers the key and any updates. Payments are handled by our checkout provider (Lemon Squeezy), which processes your billing details under its own privacy policy. The website uses the Meta (Facebook) Pixel and Meta’s Conversions API to measure advertising: these set cookies (_fbp, _fbc) and share page views and lead/purchase events — including a hashed version of your email and your IP address — with Meta Platforms under its own data policy. You can opt out through your browser cookie settings or your Meta ad preferences. Live-streaming and update checks contact only the services you choose; those have their own privacy policies.
Security
Stream keys are stored encrypted (Windows: DPAPI; macOS: a key held in the system Keychain). Treat your machine and config file as sensitive.
